Sometimes we get confused on our journey because it looks like we’re off track. To us, it seems like we’re moving sideways or in circles or—worse!—that we’re going backward.
As long as you are taking steps that seem to you like they are the best forward movement to make, then you are on the right track and doing the right thing.
It’s a false impression that you’re taking a circuitous route and it’s an illusion that you’re moving backward!
As long as you’re taking the next reasonable step, then you are just fine.
Soon you’ll see that what seemed like the scenic route or what you thought was going backward was actually a shortcut. It brought you to valuable places, people, resources, and the like, that you would have missed out on had your path gone the way you thought it should go.
Your homework for today is to shake off the confusion and take the next step!

Success, happiness, fulfilment are in moving forward and can only happen if you move forward. I encourage you to let go of the baggage, let go of the past.
Turn your focus away from what didn’t work out and what happened that you didn’t want. Turn away from the hurts, disappointments, grief, and sorrow. You will NOT find happiness, restoration, the “Re-Do” button, the life of your dreams, in the past. No amount of grieving, sorrow, regret, analysis, evaluation, hoping, will change the past. The past is done and over with and cannot be changed; you do NOT get a second chance to re-live the past.
Certainly it’s normal to feel sad, upset, disappointed, and other emotions when you are hurt and things don’t work out, but don’t wallow and get stuck there.
Naturally it’s helpful to take a look at what went wrong and what you can do differently in the future. But don’t get caught up in blaming yourself and tearing yourself down.
Of course it can be very helpful to talk to close friends and family—even cry on their shoulders—and it’s admirable to seek the help of professionals such as counselors and people of the clergy, but don’t get into the habit of complaining, whining, and negative thinking.
The past is over. It can’t touch you. It has NO power over you. Recognize that the past cannot limit you. Only you can limit you by allowing yourself to be limited. The only way the past has power in the present and future is if you ALLOW it because you CHOOSE to let it limit you, color your view of the world, and trip you up.
It’s only in the present and future that you can find happiness, success, fulfillment, healing, love, another chance, and other Goodness.
Your homework for today is to turn forward, be present in the moment, look to the future, and TAKE THE NEXT STEP no matter how small. Take it; do it! I know you can!
Draw a line under the past and let it go. Do what you need to do in order to come to terms with it, make peace with it—read, contemplate, work with professionals, and anything else you can think of. Draw a line under it, then step over and move beyond that line! Promise yourself to take steps forward into the future. Challenge yourself to do this.

Your homework is to sit in front of your mirror with these statements—or others you have crafted. Change each statement to start with “I”. With as much enthusiasm and energy as you can, repeat these statements as you look deep into your eyes. If there is a statement or a word that strikes a chord within you, then repeat that one several times. Keep the phrase or word handy this month and repeat it frequently throughout each day. And, don’t forget to start your day by saying these when you first wake up and to end your day by repeating these before you fall asleep.
End this session, and each session, repeating the statement “I love you”. It may feel awkward to look at yourself and tell yourself that you love you, but do it anyway. And keep doing this frequently, whether you feel like it or not and whether you feel silly or not. Just do it!
