Disappointment, Discouragement, Despair

All of us experience times when things don’t go as planned and they don’t work out as we had hoped and imagined. When this happens, it’s natural to feel disappointed. As quickly as you can, though, shake it off. Pull yourself up; take the next step.

Fight with all your might against lingering disappointment! It rapidly leads to discouragement which then is but a step away from deadly despair.

I heard a story once about the Devil having a garage sale on all his tools: 90% off on Anger, Envy, Greed, Miserliness, Laziness, Filthiness, Selfishness, among other traits and emotions. There was one, however, that was put to the side and rested on a purple velvet pillow.

It was Despair.

When asked about it, the Devil said that it was priceless and not for sale—and never would be for sale. With this one tool the Devil could take down even the strongest person. The Devil said that all the other traits and emotions contained energy, and with energy comes the potential for action and change.

But with Despair, there is no energy; the person will not take any action to save him/herself.

With Despair, a person is doomed.

Welcome to the final quarter of 2014!

We’ve rounded the last corner and now we’re headed down the home stretch.

Last week your homework was to pull out your To Do list for 2014 (click here to be taken to that post). You were asked to choose your top priority items that you most definitely wanted to complete by the end of the year. Then you were to list the steps you needed to take in order to complete the items. You were reminded to break the steps into small pieces that could fit into your schedule and that you knew are easy to do.

Now, today, is the day to implement that plan (if you haven’t already)! Here’s a pep rally to send you on your way!

You can do it! You have deep reserves you can tap into that’ll fuel you on your way!

You are made of sturdy stuff and you come from hearty stock. You have what it takes to meet your goals and achieve your dreams!

Your stride is strong and sure; your actions are well thought-out and decisive!

You have just the right type of intelligence, the perfect type of common sense, and the ideal know-how needed to achieve your specific dreams!

Follow the Still Small Voice within your heart and soul and it will lead you to your dreams.

You are a champion! You are a victor! You are a winner!

You can do this, I know you can!

I believe in you!

Go for it!

Your homework today is to say these statements to yourself while standing in front of your mirror and smiling at your reflection. Remember to be enthusiastic and excited as you speak these. Then choose a few of these statements to have handy during the day. Refer to them frequently, especially when you need a boost of enthusiasm and optimism.

You can do it! I believe in you!

I’m so proud of you!
