Now that you spent some quality time yesterday resting, just resting (click here to navigate to that post), you’re primed to sit in still silence for a time today.

Sitting in silence each day, especially if you can do it first thing in the morning, is restorative in a way that no other resting or relaxing activity or method can provide. Being still and silent is how you tune into the Still Small Voice within and hear the whisperings and urgings of your heart and soul.

Your homework today is to be still and silent. You can think of this as meditation time, contemplative time, prayer time, or whatever you’d like to call it. You can do this sitting in a place of worship, sitting in Nature, in a space in your home where you can be quiet and undisturbed for a time, or any other place. It doesn’t matter what you name it or where you do it, what matters is that you are still and quiet and that you’re turning your focus inward.

Sit comfortably for about 20 minutes—no worries if you don’t have a contemplation pillow to sit on; you can do this sitting in any type of chair: couch, recliner, kitchen chair, etc.. The point is to be comfortable.

Turn your focus inward to your emotions and the physical sensations you’re experiencing right at this particular moment. Notice your thoughts in a detached manner, as if you are a scientist observing a subject. It’s okay to let your mind wander but don’t cling to any of the thoughts. Also, don’t allow any tension or anxiety to form because of the thoughts and emotions. All you want to do is to observe the thoughts, emotions, sensations that are part of your experience in and of the moment, then let them go. And, if you are not having any particular thoughts and your emotions and the sensations in your body are calm, that’s perfectly fine.

Gently, gently, gently—ever so gently—turn your focus inward and listen. Your earthly ears may hear the sounds of Nature or the sounds of people going about their day. That’s fine; no problem. Just observe that you are hearing sounds and then let it go. Listen and try to hear with your inward ears, the ones that can hear the Still Small Voice and the urgings and whisperings of your heart and soul. Be open to anything and everything; be aware and accepting of all you experience during this inward time.

There is no right way to do this and there is no goal you are trying to achieve with this. The pressure’s off!! Know that whatever happens during this session is the perfect thing for you and where you are in your journey right now.

After this session, carry with you what you got from this session. You may feel peaceful and calm, you may have an insight or a special knowing of what your next step is, or you may feel that you got nothing out of this at all. All of these—and anything else you may be thinking or feeling—is perfectly fine.

Know that you did get something out of this session, even if it was something so subtle that you may not have sensed it at this time. Trust that you got what you needed for this moment in time.

You can do this; gently keep at it each day.

I’m so proud of you!

Your Friend and Pep Pal,

Lauren
