Spoiler alert for the movie Legally Blonde that stars Reese Witherspoon! I’ll keep it to a minimum but today’s post will give away some of what happens.

Elle, the Barbie-type character Reese Witherspoon plays, expects to be proposed to by Warner, her Ken-type boyfriend, but he dumps her instead saying that since he has been accepted to Harvard Law School, he needs a serious-minded, prudent girlfriend that would be an asset to him in his career.

At first, Elle is devastated but then gets the idea to go to Harvard Law School, too, to impress Warner and to win him back. She studies and works hard and is accepted.

She is on her way to becoming a lawyer so that she can impress Warner and win him back and to then accept a marriage proposal from him—and, presumably, live happily ever after.

When she arrives at Harvard, things aren’t at all like what she imagined or expected. She is very different from the typical Harvard Law School student and she meets with all sorts of obstacles and setbacks, including being ridiculed and treated dismissively. But she still has hope that if she tries hard enough, she’ll win back Warner.

After a particularly humiliating and painful experience, she realizes that in Warner’s eyes, she’ll never be good enough.

This causes her to do a little soul-searching and, through a series of events, ends up reformulating her goals and dreams. She commits to becoming an excellent attorney with character, integrity, and compassion for her clients. She ends up graduating at the top of her class, accepting a position at one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston, and becomes engaged to a man who truly loves her.

This journey is what successful people experience as they work toward their dreams. They start out with a dream but then as they move toward it, they have to tweak it and even rework it. This is because dreams need to deepen and mature. The dream then evolves into one that is the person’s true calling.

Your homework today is to know that it’s a good thing if you have to tweak and rework your dreams, and your reasons for wanting to achieve them. You’ve probably discovered new information and you’ve probably grown and developed as an individual. It’s normal and natural then that your dreams will deepen and mature as well.

Follow the direction they’re leading you. Take it one step at a time. Break the steps into small pieces, little parts, and tiny bits. Then choose a bit and move forward!

You can do it!

I’m so proud of you!

Your Friend and Pep Pal,

Lauren
