Begin challenging your own assumptions. Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.
~Alan Alda, Actor
How do we do this “challenge your own assumptions”? We do this through questions. Asking—and answering—the question “why?” Asking why will peel back the layers and get to the subtle, nearly invisible, assumptions that we all make and that drive our lives. These subtle assumptions have the potential to determine whether we are successful—or not—and even the degree to which we are successful—or not.
Your homework today is to ask yourself “why?” Keep digging. Keep asking and answering until you get to the center—the assumption. Is the assumption true, is it accurate? Can you tweak it to be more relevant and helpful to you on your quest to achieve your dreams?
This is important work to do; it may be hard and uncomfortable but, because of the insights you’ll have, you’ll be glad you did it.
Go for it! You can do it!
I’m so proud of you!
Your Friend and Pep Pal,
