Last week we talked about determination (click here to be taken to that post).

It’s great to be working toward your dreams like a machine, not slowing down for anything.  You’re energized, you’re making great progress, and that energizes you more so you make even greater progress.

But sometimes, you just need a break.

This could be caused by the lack of sleep catching up with you; maybe you’ve hit a snag; perhaps someone said or did something that triggered the stinkin’ thinkin’ tapes in your head.  The result is you’re listless, discouraged, and the thought of throwing in the towel sounds reallyreallyreally good to you right now.

STOP!

Before you do that, take a break—give yourself a little breather!

Your homework is to make a list of things you can do to give yourself a break.  A short walk around the block or a power nap can rejuvenate you, and so can listening to your favorite music.  Once in a while you may need a longer block of time such as meeting a friend for a cozy meal, or spending the afternoon reading a good book or tinkering with a hobby.  Occasionally you may need to take extended time off such as a long weekend or a few weeks.

Keep this list handy for the moments when you’re wondering if it’s all worth it and thinking that you probably should throw in the towel.  Before doing that, take out your list and give yourself a breather!

You can do it, I know you can!

I’m so proud of you!

Your Friend and Pep Pal,

Lauren
