Achieving your dreams, no matter what they are, requires determination. It’s often helpful to repeat the word to yourself because it can give you the boost you need to cross the finish line of a difficult task.
Sometimes, though, the word ‘determination’ has such a grim sound to it, conjuring up images of raggedy people toiling in cold, unforgiving workhouse conditions. Those types of thought-images don’t help us. In fact, they might make it even harder to press on!
It’s time to pull out our thesauruses—thesauri—and lets’ go shopping!
By the way, it doesn’t matter what type of thesaurus you use–visual, dictionary style, index format–and it doesn’t matter if you use an online version or one in actual book form; they’ll all work for our purposes!
Sometimes all you need is a small boost so a word like ‘pluck’ or ‘spunk’ might be what you need to focus on. Other times, the going is tougher so you may need to concentrate on a word such as ‘grit’ or ‘fortitude’ or ‘tenacity’. When it’s really rocky and bumpy on your path, words like ‘stubborn’ or ‘obstinate’ or ‘steadfast’ or ‘immovable’ can help.
The key to remember is: Determination by any other name still gets the job done!
