Happy Halloween 2015: Who You Want to Be

Halloween is a time we all think about dressing up and being someone or something else. Because of the season and the holiday, we’re usually thinking along the lines of fairy princesses, clowns, skeletons, ghosts, superheroes, Flappers, zombies, and the like.  And, it’s usually the kids that get to have all the fun of putting on a costume and being something or someone that isn’t their normal self.

Perhaps we can take a cue from this and think about the person we want to be—the one who is allowed to and able to live our dream life. Why can’t we bring that person into our everyday life?

We need to do this, actually. We won’t achieve the fullness of our dreams if we aren’t being the person to whom the dream belongs.

It doesn’t work this way: that we achieve our dreams and suddenly we turn into the person we want to be—or that it’s somehow conferred upon us, kind of like being knighted.  Life doesn’t work that way.

The way it works is that you focus on your dreams and strive toward them. In your focusing and striving you allow them to imbue and infuse you and turn you into the person to whom the dream belongs.  Now, this isn’t a passive thing, You also have a responsibility to identify how you need to refine yourself and then work every day toward your ideal person.

Your homework today is to think about your dreams and the type of person you will be when you achieve them. Then make a note of the differences between how you are currently versus the person you will be.  Make sure you also note the things you have in common—the good traits, actions, thoughts, etc., that you already have.

Then make a plan for becoming the person who you want to be–the person to whom the dream belongs–then follow through on that plan!

You can do it, I know you can!

I’m so proud of you!
