In yesterday’s post, I told you about one of the Red Tailed hawks that lives in my neighborhood (click here to be taken to the post). Even though I didn’t see the hawk today, it stayed on my mind all day.

I kept picturing the way the hawk seemed so carefree and how it playfully wheeled in the sky as it skimmed along on the thermals. Never once did it over exert itself–or even exert itself, for that matter! But yet, it soared!

To my amazement, at one point I noticed the hawk was climbing HIGHER in the sky!

There was no desperate flapping of wings slinging feathers everywhere, and there was no squawking and carrying on while it strained to go higher.

No, none of that!

With a simple and easy tilt of its wings, the hawk glided higher in the sky!

This got me to thinking….

The hawk did what it did best–in this case, gliding and soaring. Not once did it worry or get frustrated and curse its bad luck at having been born a hawk. Not once did it try to catch prey like a bear or a shark would.

Nope.

Not once.

Instead, the hawk trusted that it had what it took to be a hawk. And it trusted that with observation and patience, opportunities that were right for it would come along. And, when they did, the hawk took immediate action!

Your homework is to trust and have faith in the fact that you have what it takes to be you and that Nature, events, and opportunities are supporting you in being you. Trust and have faith in the fact that you also have what it takes to make your dreams come true and that Nature, events, and opportunities are conspiring to help you live the life of your dreams.

Like the hawk, be patient, be observant, and do what you naturally do best. When opportunities line up, take action!

You can do it, I know you can!

I am very proud of you!

Success Secrets from Mother Nature: Red-Tailed Hawk Part 1: Just Hangin’

In my neighborhood we have at least two Red-Tailed Hawks that live with us–in the wild, of course! Yesterday, I was taking a break from working and was gazing out the window. It was a beautiful sunny, early fall, day–the leaves with a hint of color and a powder blue sky decorated by a few beached white clouds. As I was taking in the scene, I noticed one of our resident hawks lazily circling on the air currents.

My first thought about the hawk was: Not a care in the world; just effortlessly gliding along.

This got me to thinking….

How many times do we worry and fret, allow our stomachs to knot up, and then we end up losing sleep because of something gnawing at us? More than that, though, how many times does that issue resolve itself and, on its heels, another one comes along…starting up the whole worry process again? If we aren’t careful, this cycle of worry can go on for years–decades, even–firmly entrenching itself as a habit pattern–a bad habit pattern.

We can take a lesson from the hawk as it was ‘just hangin” on the air currents. Perhaps it was hungry and eager for a meal. Instead of fretting about it and flapping its wings all over the place and squawking and carrying on, it was just hangin’, gliding through the air.

As it circled, the hawk probably had its eyes open and was attentive to what was happening on the ground (the most likely location of its meal), but it was probably alert to other opportunities that might come along–keeping its options open (for instance, it could have grabbed a bird in mid-flight)!

Then, as I watched, the hawk altered its pattern. It folded its wings and swooped below the tree line into the meadow beyond. I imagined that the hawk’s choice of just hangin’ and being open to the possibilities paid off in the form of a tasty meal.

Like the Red-Tailed Hawk, as we move toward our dreams, we can relax and just hang, being open to what comes along. When an opportunity does present itself, we can swoop in and take advantage of it!

Your homework today is to take time to just hang. That doesn’t mean to veg-out like some sort of zombie. It means to suspend judgment and worry and, in a relaxed state, observe what’s going on around you. When you spot something that can help you move forward toward your dreams, take action!

You can do it!

I’m proud of you!

Wisdom from the Farm: Shift in Focus

At the farm this past week, for our shares, we were able to pick one sunflower. At first glance, it looks as if they are done for the season. All that seems to be left are withered stalks and shrunken flower heads. But, when I shifted my focus just a little bit–less than a foot– and poked around, I saw brand new blooms hidden among the dried stalks. I found a beauty to take home!

This got me to thinking….

How many “parched fields” do we pass by because we think there’s nothing of value there? What would we see if, instead of speeding by, we took a moment to slow down so we could get a good look at them? What if we were to stop and poke around a bit; what rare flower or delectable fruit would we find?

Your homework today is to stop being so quick to judge and dismiss an opportunity because it seems like there’s nothing there. Take a moment to shift your focus and see it from a variety of angles; think it through. You may find that breakthrough you’ve been searching for!

You can do it!

I’m so proud of you!

Turn Wishing into Doing

WISHING

Do you wish the world were better?
Let me tell you what to do.
Set a watch upon your actions,
Keep them always straight and true.
Rid your mind of selfish motives,
Let your thoughts be clean and high.
You can make a little Eden
    Of the sphere you occupy.

Do you wish the world were wiser?
Well, suppose you make a start,
By accumulating wisdom
In the scrapbook of your heart;
Do not waste one page on folly;
Live to learn, and learn to live.
If you want to give men knowledge
You must get it, ere you give.

Do you wish the world were happy?
    Then remember day by day
Just to scatter seeds of kindness
As you pass along the way,
For the pleasures of the many
May be ofttimes traced to one,
As the hand that plants an acorn
    Shelters armies from the sun.

Your homework today is to live your life in the way you think is right, thus setting the example for the world to follow.

One excellent example to set is to follow your dreams.  Take a step today that will take you closer to achieving them.  Break the step into little pieces—ones that are small enough to be very comfortable for you.  Then do those bits and pieces!

You can do it, I’m sure you can!

I’m so proud of you!

Review Your Week: Happy Send a Smile Day!

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. ~Leo Buscaglia

One aspect of living the life of your dreams is joy and a manifestations of joy is smiling.

http://www.publicdomainpictures.net/view-image.php?image=96530&picture=boy-laughing

Your homework today is to be extravagantly, wastefully, generous in giving your smiles away.  Your smile is awesome and you never know who it will help, even if fleetingly, and how that help will boomerang back to you.

Remember to smile at yourself, too!  Stand straight and tall in front of your mirror and smile at yourself.  And, don’t give it a lick and a promise!  Take the time to really look at yourself, the way your smile causes your eyes to sparkle and creates a pleasant glow about you.  Relish the positive and joyous feelings that smiling at yourself gives you.

Give yourself something to smile about such as when reviewing your week, smile and whoop and dance with joy at all the progress you’ve made, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant.  It all adds up so it all counts!!

WooHoo!

And celebrate with your friends and family by having a Send a Smile fest!  Make a game of it by seeing who can smile the biggest, who can smile the wackiest, who has the cutest smile, and any other categories you can think of.

Have FUN!

Happy Press-The_Reset-Button Day: Welcome to the Fourth Quarter of 2015

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Repeat_font_awesome.svg
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Repeat_font_awesome.svg

Today begins the last quarter of 2015; we’re heading down the home stretch of the year! There’s still time to achieve some of the goals we listed at the beginning of the year.

Press the Reset Button!

Today you can declare that no matter what happened in 2015 so far–the goofs you made, the action steps you’re dragging your feet on, the ways in which you held yourself back–you can draw a line under all of this and leave it behind.

You can press the Reset Button.

You can resolve to take steps–even if they’re little smidgens of steps–toward your goals and dreams.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Astronomer.svg#/media/File:Astronomer.svg
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Astronomer.svg#/media/File:Astronomer.svg

Your homework today is to focus forward. Forget about what you did or did not do so far this year. Leave behind all the shouldas, wouldas, and couldas. Resolve today that you will do a little something toward your dreams and goals each day, if possible. If you can’t take action each day then promise yourself that a certain time each week you will focus on your goals and dreams for a set period of time (for instance, every Saturday morning for one hour you’ll work on moving forward toward your dreams). Then follow through on that promise!

Break the actions into steps. Break those into small parts and little pieces. Break those into tiny bits. Break those into smidgens and specks. Once you get to a size that is just right for you, do those teensy tiny things!

Pressing the reset button is only a matter of refocusing on your dreams and doing the little bits and bobs of steps that will move you closer toward them!

You can do it, I know you can!

I’m so very proud of you!

Your Friend and Pep Pal,

Lauren
