As you review your week, pay close attention to whether or not you’re following through on celebrating yourself. Do you treat yourself to something special or do you “promise” you’ll get to it later, only to find that you never do get around to it?
If you’re like a lot of us, you don’t do so well with following through on applauding yourself.
This has got to stop!
It’s important to acknowledge the little bits of progress, the things in your life that are going well, and the things you’re doing right. When you acknowledge the good you’re doing and pause to celebrate it, you’re keeping the momentum going. And, you’re building resistance to discouragement and frustration as well as strengthening your resilience and your bounce-back-ability.
Your homework today is to make a list of all the things you can do to celebrate you. Make a list of celebrations that might take a lot of time, for instance if you decide to treat yourself to a vacation, that will take several days at least. Also include on your list celebrations that take only a few moments, for instance pausing and letting the good feelings of satisfaction and joy that accompany the achievement infuse your body, mind, and spirit.
Include on your list expensive things, such as that vacation we just talked about. Also include things you can do for free such as reading a good book, spending time with a friend or loved one, or taking a walk in the park.
Write down all sorts of things—and don’t worry about the time it would take or how much it would cost or what the neighbors would think. If it pops into your mind, then pop it onto your list!
Keep your list handy and refer to it often. Follow through with the celebrations you’ve listed. And, you can even treat yourself just because you’re you and you like you! That’s worth celebrating, too!
Remember to follow through on your celebrations of you! Don’t put it off until later!! Do it now!
You can do it, I know you can!
I’m so proud of you!
Your Friend and Pep Pal,
