Oftentimes when we need a boost, we look outside of ourselves to see what we can use to help ourselves. We look to friends and family to give us an encouraging word, we look to things going our way to boost us; we look to the outside to make us feel better about ourselves and our situation–to give us a boost.
But the surest way to get a boost is to give a boost.
When you’re feeling down and discouraged, when you’re feeling hopeless and helpless, when you are worried and afraid, when you think there’s just no way you’re going to get out of the fix you’re in, THAT’S the time to look outside yourself and see what you can do for others.
I’m not talking about taking on their problems, although if you can lend a hand that would be a good thing. What I’m really talking about is saying a good word to people.
For instance, in the check out lane, you can notice something about the cashier to compliment her or him on. If, at work, your team is faced with a problem, you can be the one to say that with all the talent and know-how the team has, you’re sure a solution will be found.

At home, even though your kids’ rooms may be a mess, you realize that you don’t have to tell them to feed the pets or wash the dishes or to do their homework. And your spouse or partner may not be perfect, but perhaps she/he gives great back rubs or keeps the house or yard tidy and attractive. Let your family know you appreciate them!
Give an encouraging word to everyone around you and watch how that boosts your confidence, self esteem, and happiness!
In the comments below, let me the boost it gives you!
I’m so proud of you!
