You can only write regularly if you’re willing to write badly. You can’t write regularly and well. One should accept bad writing as a way of priming the pump, a warm-up exercise that allows you to write well. ~Jennifer Egan
Although today’s quote is talking about writing, in its place you can substitute any area of interest, any passion, any subject–anything–and it still holds true.
The quote also applies to self-actualization–the quest to unshakably connect with your True Self and live a juicy, luscious life.
This quote is telling us that the price we’ll pay to get to this delicious life is feeling uncomfortable, awkward, and out of our depth as we learn. The price also includes making false starts and mistakes. Also, it’s feeling unsure and wrestling with self-doubt.
The good news is that the more we stick with it and take one babystep after another, the more confident we’ll become and the clearer we’ll see that we’re on the right track.
Take the next step!
Your Friend and Pep Pal,
Lauren
