In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s recent birthday, I have been reading about him. While at times he was quite human, he was also extraordinary. I came across the following quote that was as relevant back in the ‘60s as it is now. I thought you’d be interested to read it, too:
Courage is an inner resolution to go forward despite obstacles; Cowardice is submissive surrender to circumstances. Courage breeds creativity; Cowardice represses fear and is mastered by it. Cowardice asks the question, is it safe? Expediency asks the question, is it politic? Vanity asks the question, is it popular? But conscience ask the question, is it right? And there comes a time when we must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right. ~Dr. Martin Luther King
“…because it is right.” One of the most important phrases to keep in mind as we live each day.
We don’t have to become anything more than who we are; we don’t have to change our lives, ourselves, or give up our dreams. We just have to keep in mind the phrase “…because it is right” and guide ourselves accordingly.
