A soul-prospering life…what does it mean to you?

Some people automatically think it means a lot of money in the bank or an impressive job title or an incredible house or taking exotic vacations.

These are material things and you might have them as part of living your soul-prospering life. But they aren’t required and you certainly shouldn’t use them as a measuring tool for whether or not you’re living your soul-prospering life or how much of it you’re living. Using material acquisitions and possessions as your guide is a sure recipe for disaster.

I don’t mean to say that when you life a soul-prospering life it’s one of asceticism and that material things are bad.

No. Not at all.

I’m saying that material things are not a true measure of your success and are not proof of your worth or your superiority.

A soul-prospering life is one where you are fully engaged in life by being true to yourself–not true to what society thinks or your friends and family think, but true to YOU. When you are true to who you are, you are authentic and you have nothing to prove to anyone. You radiate an inner calm, you are at peace with yourself and the world, and you experience a wellspring of joy regardless of your circumstances.

Living a soul-prospering life means that you’re living in a way that matters, you’re making a difference in your corner of the world. It’s what people mean when they talk about having an impact.

You don’t have to constantly be in the news for doing amazing things or solving big problems like world hunger. You don’t have to go off on mission trips to Africa if that isn’t your calling. You can do seemingly very simple things at home in your own community and still live a full life Soul prospering life.

For instance I have a friend who loves knitting. At one point she tried to make a living from it, which didn’t work out. But that hasn’t stopped her from following her love of all things knitting. She found a job that she likes and she’s good at that pays the bills, which then gives her the freedom to pursue her knitting.

She is constantly designing new patterns and knitting these beautiful creations. Of course she gives them to her friends and family. But, she doesn’t stop there. She is the powerhouse behind a community knitting project where other interested knitters meet weekly and work on projects together. They knit little hats and mittens for premature babies; they knit socks, hats, gloves, and blankets for the senior citizens in town as well as for families who have fallen on hard times; they also knit prayer shawls. My friend and her group is making a huge impact in our local community.

The best thing is, my friend feels that she is living a full, exciting, soul-prospering life. She feels just as important as any president of any country!

You don’t have to be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company in order to live a soul prospering life. You can live a seemingly humble life that prospers your soul and still have an enormous impact.

Take the time today to think about what living a soul-prospering life means to you. Let me know what you think in the comments below. Thanks!

Your Friend and Pep Pal,
Lauren
