A spiritually based quiet time–whether something from organized religion, a spiritual observances, or a practice you’ve devised for yourself–is essential to stripping away all the junk that seeps in from the outer world. We do this so we can hear the whisperings of our soul, the urgings of our heart, so that we can follow the Still Small Voice within.
What to do during this quiet time:
~Several people, including Julia Cameron, suggest journaling and using this as a way to get rid of the junk that clutters up your mind and prevents or dampens good thoughts and feelings from being fully expressed;
~Some people combine meditation and contemplation with a gentle exercise program, everything from walking the dog or strolling through a park to a yoga practice or some other form of exercise that combines movement with deeper thought.
~Other people sit or recline and are quiet and still, some empty their minds while others just let themselves be and allow their thoughts to go where they will without attaching to the thoughts;
~Many people find that background instrumental music helps them get into a meditative, contemplative state.
There are many more methods. One isn’t better than another; there is no right way. It’s perfectly fine to take a little bit from one practice, a little bit from another method, and mix it all up with your own personal tweaks.
Find the thing that works for you. And, you may find that some days one technique works and other days you need to do a different practice.
Whatever you find that works for you is perfect.
The reason to do this is to empty your mind, body, soul, spirit, as well as your mental, emotional, and physical self of all the negative thoughts, emotions, feelings, habits, routines, and junk that you’ve picked up over the years.
The point is to make plenty of room in yourself and your life–as clean and as clear of a vessel as possible–so that you can realizing that yes, you do have a place and a purpose in this world.
Don’t be afraid to release and let go of all the stuff that no longer serves you and open to, accept and receive all the Goodness that is specifically and purposely made for you and, even now, is in storage for you just waiting for you to say YES! and THANK YOU!
You can do it!
