Don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t right, that it’s too fast or too slow. Just because they are traveling at a certain speed does not make that speed correct for you and your journey. Trust yourself. Your pace WILL get you to where you want to go—as long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other and taking one step and then the next and then the next.
Your dreams are perfect for you.
It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, says, does, wants, values, or already has. What they want, what they dream about, what they go for is just right for them. It has no bearing on you, your life, and what you should or should not be dreaming about and going for.
Your homework today is to know that you are just right, just the way you are. Celebrate yourself. Stand straight and tall with your shoulders back and your head held high.
You can do this; you can go for your dreams and you can achieve them. You can do it!
You deserve to achieve your dreams. It’s true; you do!
You don’t have to earn the right to think of them, want them, and cherish them.
You don’t have to earn the right to make plans about your dreams, get excited about your dreams, or to work toward your dreams.
You don’t have to earn the right to go out and achieve your dreams.
The mere fact that you have the dream in your heart and soul means that you deserves them—they are yours to achieve. Just by having the dreams in your heart and soul means that you’ve already earned the right to have them, to go for them, and to achieve them.
Your dreams and you have been specially made to fit together as perfectly, as easily, as comfortably, and as naturally as your feet fitting into your favorite, cozy socks!
Your dreams–the true ones of your heart and soul (not the ones you think you are allowed to go for or that someone else has sanctioned for you)–your dreams are there in your heart and soul for you to achieve. Not for anyone else.
And your dreams certainly were not put in your heart and soul to taunt you or torture you!
They were put there because you are supposed to achieve them. You are the best equipped to achieve those dreams because they’re yours!
Go for it!
Your homework today is to get your mirror out—we’re going to do some mirror work! Put a big smile on your face, put your shoulders back and stand straight and tall, and with lots of enthusiasm and energy, say your favorite affirmations.
Here are a few that are based on today’s essay:
My dreams and I fit together perfectly like my feet in my most comfy-est, cozy-est socks!
My dreams are meant for me to achieve them!
I am specially made to achieve my dreams!
I have all the raw talents and intelligence inside me that I’ll need achieve my dreams!
Say these affirmations with energy while smiling at yourself in the mirror. Take your favorite affirmations with you to refer to during the day. Give yourself a boost by referring to them often!
You are just the right age and size. Your past is just right for setting you up perfectly for your dreams.
You ARE smart enough—you CAN figure it out!
Don’t let the fact that it might take you a while to “figure it out” make you think you are too dumb or stupid or aren’t smart enough to achieve your goals.
You ARE smart enough! Packed inside the dreams in your heart and soul are the abilities, talents, smarts, and know-how that you’ll need in order to achieve your dreams. You may have to develop them and you may have to reach below your surface to find them, but they ARE there and they WILL help you to your dreams.
Your homework today is stand in front of your mirror with a big smile on your face. Stand straight and tall and with enthusiasm, say these statements to yourself, changing “you” to “I”. Keep the statements handy, especially the ones that ring true for you, and repeat them throughout the day. Repeat them frequently to yourself in the weeks and months to come as well.
Then take the next step! Break it into small pieces and little parts. Break those into tiny bits, ones that are small enough that you know for sure you can quickly and easily do. Then do them!
You are the perfect one to make your dreams come true;
You are the right one to make your dreams come true;
You are chosen to make your dreams come true;
You have been specially and thoughtfully crafted to make your dreams come true;
You have all the talents and gifts you need in order to make your dreams come true;
You have the innate intelligence and abilities to make your dreams come true;
You have what it takes to make your dreams come true;
You are approved to make your dreams come true;
You have permission to make your dreams come true;
You are being guided by the whisperings of your heart and soul and by the wise counsel of the Still Small Voice within;
You are in the right place at the right time doing the right thing in the right way in order to make your dreams come true;
You can make your dreams come true!
Your homework today is to get out your mirror. Change these statements to “I” statements, especially the ones that ring true for you. Then, with a big smile and with great enthusiasm, say them as you gaze at yourself in the mirror.
Jot down your favorite statements and keep them handy so you can refer to them throughout your day, as often as you need.
Let the energy of these statements propel you onward as you take steps toward your dreams, even if those steps are actually only little bits of steps. Nothing is wasted; it all adds up!
We all run into rough patches. Sometimes it’s tougher moving through them, taking longer and more effort than we thought, so it seems that this rough patch isn’t a passing phase but rather our New Normal.
This can leave us feeling very discouraged and wondering if it’s all worthwhile. The rough patch makes us feel that we’re losing time as well as losing ground, especially when others around us seem to be zooming toward their dreams.
We begin to listen to the rough patch’s siren song urging us to quit struggling against the odds and just get used to it. We begin to think that perhaps it’s true, perhaps we don’t have what it takes. Perhaps this rough patch is delaying us for too long and now it’s too late for us. Perhaps we think it’s all over, we’re done.
None of this is true!!
YOU ARE NOT DOWN!
YOU ARE NOT OUT!
YOU ARE NOT DISQUALIFIED!
YOU HAVE NOT BEEN SIDELINED!
YOU HAVE NOT MISSED OUT!
YOU ARE NOT ALL WASHED UP!
IT IS NOT ALL OVER FOR YOU!
You DO have what it takes!
~You’re intelligent – you can brainstorm ideas and you can figure your way out!
~You’re resilient – you bounce! Get up, brush yourself off, and try again. You can do it!
You ARE talented, your abilities ARE valuable!
You have a deep well that’s full of talents and abilities. Reach in and surprise yourself with the wonderful gifts you discover there!
I believe in you!
I know for sure that you are in the right place at the right time and things are working out for you—as long as you don’t give up!
Your homework today is to say these statements to yourself. Say them as you stand in front of your mirror in the mornings. Have a big smile on your face, stand tall, and look yourself in the eye when you say them.
Say these statements with strength, conviction, and confidence—even if you don’t really feel it and you have to make it up. If you keep at it, soon you will genuinely have these feelings.
Keep these statements handy and repeat them to yourself throughout the day, especially if you’re feeling unsure, confused, worried, or disappointed. If you keep repeating these statements, you will soon feel more stable and assured that you can do it.
Keep at it! Don’t give in! Dig your heels in against the rough patch!
You can do it!
I’m so proud of you!
Your Friend and Pep Pal,
PS: Don’t worry about the negative affirmations. Sometimes it’s good to know where the line in the sand is. It’s good to draw the line and tell yourself what you won’t tolerate any longer, what is now unacceptable.
Are you feeling glum because we’re nearing the end of January but it doesn’t seem that you are making any progress?
You had such wonderful plans for 2015! You were so enthusiastic on January 1st! But now…argh!
It’s okay—no worries!
You still have what it takes to make your dreams come true!
Nothing’s changed: You’re still the same person with the same talents, skills, abilities, and specialized knowledge. You’re still being guided by the Still Small Voice within.
As long as you keep taking steps regularly—or bits of steps—you’ll still achieve your dreams!
There is a lot to be said for slow and steady progress, as long as you’re relentless—single-minded—in the pursuit of your dreams. Remember the fable of the tortoise and the hare? The hare was fast and flashy, garnering all sorts of recognition and praise. Everyone thought the race was a slam-dunk for the hare, not giving the tortoise a second thought. It was the tortoise, though, with its slow, steady pace—methodical and unrelenting action—that won the race.
What did or did not happen in the past has no bearing on whether or not you’ll be successful now and in the future.
The only things that determine your likelihood of success are your thoughts and confidence about yourself, and how dedicated, determined, perseverant, and persistent you are in working toward your dreams.
These are ALL under YOUR control! You can choose to think uplifting thoughts such as “Yes I can!” and “I can figure this out!” and “I’m smarter and stronger than any problem or set-back!”
And, you can choose to improve your self-confidence and your self-esteem by focusing on your good points, what you are doing right, the small bits of progress you are making, and what is going well in your life.
And, YOU control whether or not you take action on the steps, parts of steps, pieces of steps, and bits of steps. So, make the choice to take action, to move forward!
Your homework is to do some mirror work. Take these statements, especially the ones that resonate strongly with you—or ones you’ve made for yourself—and say them! Stand straight and tall in front of your mirror with a big smile on your face. Be enthusiastic and energetic when you say your statements.
Take the statements with you and make time in your day to take a few moments by yourself to repeat them. Do this as often as possible.
Keep doing this, not only today but every day. You’ll soon find your confidence and excitement increasing and you’ll see the progress you’re making.
You can do it, I’m sure of it!
I’m so proud of you and the progress you’re making!
