Your Environment: Why, What’s the Point?

Yes, yes, yes…we’ve all heard about the health and well-being benefits of spending time in Mother Nature: lowers stress which lowers blood pressure and stress hormones, promotes well-being because communing with Mother Nature stimulates the production of endorphins and the like. We sleep better, feel better, look better, and behave better.

But, what’s the point? How is this going to help you craft a soul-prospering life?

When your healthy and you feel good about yourself, you tend to be more positive, optimistic, and resilient. This increases your self esteem and confidence, which directly supports your creativity.

It’s through self esteem, confidence, and creativity that provides the fertile ground for your dreams to be nurtured and grow, eventually taking flight and bringing you along with them.

But what if it’s just too difficult for you to take a few moments to gaze out your window, much less step outside? And forget about spending an hour or an afternoon in Nature?!

No worries!

Have fresh flowers or a live plant in your home and office can help. Spending a few moments looking at the plant or flowers can boost your well-being.

But what if you have a black thumb or you don’t have extra in the budget for flowers or a plant?

No worries!

Researchers have shown people can still reduce stress and increase concentration and effectiveness by looking at pictures of nature as well as watching nature videos and documentaries.

There are many ways for you to enjoy the benefits of Mother Nature. Which ones will you choose for yourself? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks!

Tomorrow we’ll talk about Your Environment: Home Sweet Home and Whistle While You Work!

Your Environment: Get Outside!

Copyright 2014 Artisans Workshop Designs

No matter what the weather is where you are–cold, rainy, foggy, hot, muggy, or picture-perfect–get outside today!

Get outside ESPECIALLY to meditate-sit in silence-pray-contemplate.

There is something very simple, very peaceful, and very profound about sitting outside. Many studies have proven the health and well-being benefits of getting outside and reconnecting with Mother Nature.

You don’t have to do anything big or spectacular to get the benefits. No need to move to the country so you can live off the land. You can still get the benefits by sitting on your fire escape in the middle of the city and noticing and absorbing the birds and other animals, the sky, the weather conditions that day.

Make this a regular part of your week, and, if possible, figure out a way to spend a few minutes every day outside contemplating natural world around you.

Oh; leave the electronics at home.

You can do it!

Your Friend and Pep Pal,

Lauren

Success Secrets of Mother Nature: Red-Tailed Hawk Part 2: Trust and Faith

In yesterday’s post, I told you about one of the Red Tailed hawks that lives in my neighborhood (click here to be taken to the post). Even though I didn’t see the hawk today, it stayed on my mind all day.

I kept picturing the way the hawk seemed so carefree and how it playfully wheeled in the sky as it skimmed along on the thermals. Never once did it over exert itself–or even exert itself, for that matter! But yet, it soared!

To my amazement, at one point I noticed the hawk was climbing HIGHER in the sky!

There was no desperate flapping of wings slinging feathers everywhere, and there was no squawking and carrying on while it strained to go higher.

No, none of that!

With a simple and easy tilt of its wings, the hawk glided higher in the sky!

This got me to thinking….

The hawk did what it did best–in this case, gliding and soaring. Not once did it worry or get frustrated and curse its bad luck at having been born a hawk. Not once did it try to catch prey like a bear or a shark would.

Nope.

Not once.

Instead, the hawk trusted that it had what it took to be a hawk. And it trusted that with observation and patience, opportunities that were right for it would come along. And, when they did, the hawk took immediate action!

Your homework is to trust and have faith in the fact that you have what it takes to be you and that Nature, events, and opportunities are supporting you in being you. Trust and have faith in the fact that you also have what it takes to make your dreams come true and that Nature, events, and opportunities are conspiring to help you live the life of your dreams.

Like the hawk, be patient, be observant, and do what you naturally do best. When opportunities line up, take action!

You can do it, I know you can!

I am very proud of you!

Success Secrets from Mother Nature: Red-Tailed Hawk Part 1: Just Hangin’

In my neighborhood we have at least two Red-Tailed Hawks that live with us–in the wild, of course! Yesterday, I was taking a break from working and was gazing out the window. It was a beautiful sunny, early fall, day–the leaves with a hint of color and a powder blue sky decorated by a few beached white clouds. As I was taking in the scene, I noticed one of our resident hawks lazily circling on the air currents.

My first thought about the hawk was: Not a care in the world; just effortlessly gliding along.

This got me to thinking….

How many times do we worry and fret, allow our stomachs to knot up, and then we end up losing sleep because of something gnawing at us? More than that, though, how many times does that issue resolve itself and, on its heels, another one comes along…starting up the whole worry process again? If we aren’t careful, this cycle of worry can go on for years–decades, even–firmly entrenching itself as a habit pattern–a bad habit pattern.

We can take a lesson from the hawk as it was ‘just hangin” on the air currents. Perhaps it was hungry and eager for a meal. Instead of fretting about it and flapping its wings all over the place and squawking and carrying on, it was just hangin’, gliding through the air.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Red-Tailed_Hawk_(7566441130).jpg

As it circled, the hawk probably had its eyes open and was attentive to what was happening on the ground (the most likely location of its meal), but it was probably alert to other opportunities that might come along–keeping its options open (for instance, it could have grabbed a bird in mid-flight)!

Then, as I watched, the hawk altered its pattern. It folded its wings and swooped below the tree line into the meadow beyond. I imagined that the hawk’s choice of just hangin’ and being open to the possibilities paid off in the form of a tasty meal.

Like the Red-Tailed Hawk, as we move toward our dreams, we can relax and just hang, being open to what comes along. When an opportunity does present itself, we can swoop in and take advantage of it!

Your homework today is to take time to just hang. That doesn’t mean to veg-out like some sort of zombie. It means to suspend judgment and worry and, in a relaxed state, observe what’s going on around you. When you spot something that can help you move forward toward your dreams, take action!

You can do it!

I’m proud of you!
