Something Better is Up Ahead in 2021! 30 Days of Letting Go: Day 15


Let go of making a Big Production out of projects or tasks!

Sometimes I find myself procrastinating on beginning projects or following through to the finish on those projects.  I realize that in my thoughts I’ve made a Big Production out of it—usually because I have set a high standard for how I want the project to look at the end.

It’s time to let go of this Big Production thinking.

Big Production thinking doesn’t help me begin projects and it doesn’t help me finish these projects.  For instance, I don’t have to move the furniture every time I vacuum and I certainly don’t have to use a toothbrush on the grout of the shower stall every time I clean the bathroom!

To get over this Big Production thinking, I pause for a moment to give myself a chance to press the reset button on my thinking.  Then I lob myself a metaphorical softball by choosing something simple I can do on that project—something quick and easy.

Let go of overthinking. 

A dear friend of mine sent me an email the other day and I have her permission to share with you an excerpt:

“I came across another really great quote that made me think of your blog and your theme for the month. 

Making a big life change is scary.

But you know what’s even scarier?

I think this is really true.  Making a change is scary because of fear of the unknown.  But when I get caught up thinking that, I then challenge myself “Yes, maybe doing xyz will be bad/make things worse/be the wrong choice.  But what if it isn’t/doesn’t?  What if doing xyz makes things so much better?”  And that’s where faith comes in.  Plus remembering that very few choices that you make in life can’t be undone or changed again in the future.”


My dear friend is absolutely right—there are very few decisions that are irrevocable.

I’ve made decisions in my life that, at the time, seemed good.  But when they played out, it became obvious that they were not the right choice or they were a flat-out bad choice.

I was frustrated and very disheartened when I realized it, but I managed to live through it.  I figured out tactics, strategies, and actions that changed my direction and got me back on track.

So kick your overthinking to the curb and step out in faith as my dear friend suggests.  You can always tweak things as you go along.

You can do it!

Something Better is Up Ahead in 2021! 30 Days of Letting Go: Day 13




For sure we are living in a tumultuous time but it is NOT the end of the world!!

Let go of the thought that with disasters at every turn, the world is crashing and burning and will soon cease to exist.


Look back in history and you will see that in spite of immense disruptions, the world continued on.  People figured it out and bravely marched on. 

For instance at the height of the plague from 1346 to 1353, it’s estimated that 60% of Europe’s population was annihilated.  This was catastrophic, but it was also the catalyst for Europe’s modernization.  The Black Death destroyed the feudal system, which cleared the way for the merchant system.  This then created the middle class, which is the backbone of all modern economies. 

Additionally, the profound social, economic, cultural, and religious changes led to the emergence of the Renaissance.  The thoughts, ideas, and discoveries made during the Renaissance are some of the building blocks of our modern society and culture.

Humankind managed to slog through The Black Death and they came out strong and energetic on the other side.

If they can do it, we can too! 

We CAN muscle through the pandemic’s disruption and all the civil unrest and we CAN become stronger, more vibrant, and we CAN live our soul-prospering life as a result.


Let go of disaster thinking and open your mind to how you can use your immense talents and gifts in new and exciting ways.  Hold onto your hat because soon new doors will burst open for you!

You can do it!  We can do it!

Something Better is Up Ahead in 2021! 30 Days of Letting Go: Day 11



Do you find yourself in an endless loop of “What if?” when you’re presented with a new opportunity?  This happens to me sometimes, especially if the opportunity is way outside my comfort zone. 

As mentioned in yesterday’s post, I’ve realized that What Ifs are another indicator that I don’t have enough information in order to answer these questions.

The danger of What Ifs is that they seem very reasonable—after all this is part of doing the necessary due diligence to make sure the opportunity isn’t a scam or trap in disguise.  But if I allow myself to continue asking What If, then I’m stalling or, worse, I’ve gotten myself stuck.

The fear underlying the What Ifs is a result of knowing the answers are not in my comfort zone, they are in the unknown.  I must take action even though I don’t have all the answers and even though it feels as if I’m flying by the seat of my pants and liable to crash at any moment!

Lots to let go of today!  Letting go of What Ifs, letting go of comfort zones, letting go of having to know all the answers before beginning, and letting go of demanding a calm, sedate pace when in the unknown!

Something Better is Up Ahead in 2021! 30 Days of Letting Go: Day 10


How to tell if you need to let something go: If you’re stressing over it, if you’re constantly thinking about it, you need to let it go.

It occurred to me recently that if I’m fretting about something and I’m thinking about it often, then that’s telling me that I don’t have enough information to make a decision.  And, because I can’t make a decision, then I can’t move on—I’m stuck!

But if I let it go, then I can move on to another project.  Just because I let go now doesn’t mean I let go forever.  And letting go doesn’t mean I don’t care about it.

All letting go means in this case is “not yet.” 

The door is open for later on when I have more information, more experience, have met others with knowledge and expertise who will help me.

Something Better is Up Ahead in 2021! 30 Days of Letting Go: Day 8


Yesterday I told you of a project that was dumped in my lap unexpectedly.  I was feeling slightly agitated as I was working on it today.  Suddenly I was aware of a thought that was going through my head.  On a barely conscious level I had been thinking about an incident that happened 4 years ago (!!) at a one-day workshop.

At this workshop, a narcissistic woman was taking up most of the speaker’s time by asking question after question that was specific to her particular circumstance.  I was getting annoyed with her but I didn’t say anything because I thought it was just me—that other people were getting value out of her questions even though I wasn’t.  After a while, a brave woman in the audience called out that other people would like the speaker to continue with his presentation.  The whole audience clapped!

I asked myelf why the heck was I thinking now about something that happened FOUR years ago?!  It occurred to me that the memory of my annoyance back then was increasing the agitation I was feeling now.

My agitated state of mind was attracting to it memories that would support—and increase—my agitation!


It’s true that like attracts like!!!

Needless to say, I QUICKLY let go of the thoughts of the woman from four years ago and paid attention to what was going on around me.  I am happy to say I heard a bird chirp a few times!  I love hearing birds singing and chirping so this definitely lifted my spirits and helped me change the focus of my thoughts!

Today’s lesson:  Let go of unpleasant thoughts because they’ll only attract more of the same.  Not helpful at all!!
